Photo requirements

Most countries want:

  • Photo taken in the last 6 months
  • Plain, light background
  • Face the camera with a neutral expression
  • Eyes open and visible
  • No glasses (unless medical)
  • No head coverings (except religious or medical)

Taking the photo

  • Use natural light from the front to avoid shadows
  • Stand against a white or off-white wall with nothing on it
  • Put the camera at eye level, 4-6 feet away
  • Keep your mouth closed, no smiling
  • Wear dark clothes (not white)
